We have several ideas to keep this website working and not overwork any one person. The main plan is to divide and distribute the work.
"Ftp Folders" can be created that function as seperate websites or as folders within this site. The Gambit and Grand Prix folders are being mananged by Jeff Jones and Charlie Carerros. They have ftp access to their folders and can directly post new information. If there is an area you would like to manage, please get in touch.
The NCCA can provide any member an "Ftp Folder" for a chess site. There is no charge and no advertising. The NCCA has unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth. Providing space for members seems natural. Our first example is Raleigh Tournament Chess Club. Your site url will be an ftp folder below "www.ncchess.org/". Email the webmaster with your request.
Let's take advantage of Google Docs. Tournament Directors and others can gain the benefits of a web page by creating a Google Doc. Keep control of your information and just share a link. If you find a typo, fix it at the source and it's fixed everywhere. This format should be accessible to everyone with a browser.
Note: We have already begun to use Google Docs. Several TD's have created Google Docs for sharing information. Walter High has created a Google Spreadsheet for student ratings. The webmaster created a link to the document and fogot about it while Walter continued to work.
I hope chess players will use Flickr or Picasa for photos. Please take many pictures and upload them to an account. It's easy, it's free and you will be in control of your pictures. Just send us a link and we will all enjoy them. If you prefer another photo site we will be happy to link to that one too.
Let's start a games database. Send in games played in NC tournaments or played by NC players. Send the games in PGN format. The database can be made available in pgn format as soon as the games arrive. A game viewer will be added to the website when the database begins to grow. If you don't have a program to create pgn files, try Caissa online. Filemate is a small free program that can do a good job.
Please report any and all broken links, glitches, and bugs that you find. Normal procedure would be to send these reports to the webmaster. Please follow that procedure unless you are sure another person is directly responsible for the information or responsible for the page where you find the problem. Report problems to one person, normally the webmaster. Give that person a chance to work on the problem and chase it down before getting others involved.
